After spending time visiting schools across the Greater Accra Region, our founder observed the same painful pattern everywhere: teachers spending 40+ minutes on paper attendance, bursars managing fee ledgers in dog-eared exercise books, and headmasters with no real-time data to make decisions. The tools existed overseas. They just weren't affordable or localised for Ghana.
A small team of Ghanaian developers began building SmartSMS from scratch — not an adaptation of a foreign product, but a ground-up solution designed for Ghanaian school structures: terms, classes, sections, GES grading, GHS fees, BECE results. The first beta launched in three pilot schools in Accra.
Word spread quickly. Schools shared it with neighbouring schools. Within a year, 200+ schools across 6 regions were using SmartSMS. We added QR attendance, bulk ID cards, and parent portals based on real feedback from real school administrators.
SmartSMS now serves 500+ schools and 50,000+ students. We're expanding to Nigeria, Kenya, and Sierra Leone — always with the same commitment: modern school management, built for Africa, priced for Africa.
